About This Quote

The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we stand as in what direction we are moving. This quote has been attributed to Mahatma Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln. However, the earliest known appearance of it (in a collection of quotes and sayings called The Book of Quotations) was in a 1906 edition of the British magazine The Outlook. It is believed that the author, William Holmes McGuffey, wrote it in the 19th century.
